Elitism

It seems to me that many intellectuals, however unconsciously, perceive some merit in reducing accessibility to ideas through equivocation. Ideas thus shielded are impervious to objections and rebuttals from fools who lack the nuance to offer useful criticism–or so the thinking, or the feeling, seems to go.
